Nexium® is a prescription drug used to treat adult patients with acute gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Nexium® is a proton pump inhibitor that has been widely used in the medical community for the treatment of GERD. Nexium® Nexium® is a brand name for the prescription drug esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor. The drug is prescribed for patients who have had a heart attack, heart valve disease, or a recent heart attack or angina.   • Have allergy to Esomeprazole or any ingredients in Nexium 24HR 20mg tablets.
  • Have history of seizures, severe stomach pain, history of acid reflux, severe acid reflux, persistent vomiting with or without diarrhea.
  • Have high blood pressure, heart disease, liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, esophagitis with or without esophageal varices, gastric malignancy, previous history of hypersensitivity to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), other proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), or any component of the dose.

Warning: Nexium may increase the risk of CVD or kidney damage. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms of CVD, such as increased energy, swelling your ankles/feet, fatigue/dysfunction, dizziness, nausea/ vomiting. Renal impairment only.

Use in Children or Adolescents

Use in Child or Adolescent With a Known Liver or Esophageal Upset: Take 1 tablet daily for at least 7 days and up to 14 days. Warning: Nexium may cause upregulation of the immune system in patients with a known liver or liver enzyme level. Seek immediate medical help if you notice any signs of an increase in liver or kidney function. Renal Impairment: Do not take Nexium if you are over 65 years of age, have poor communication with your child or if you have severe renal impairment. PPI's may be required during treatment with Nexium.
